CSV Normalize
data.csv_normalize
Overview
When you send messy CSV (inline or file_ref), we detect the delimiter, normalize headers, trim whitespace, enforce column consistency, and render clean RFC 4180 output with a SHA-256 checksum and structured report. Large output can spill to file_ref automatically. Do not use this for type validation, JSON conversion, or files above your max_bytes limit.
Spreadsheet exports arrive with inconsistent delimiters and headers. We normalize deterministically and give you a checksum.
Reliability
STRICT and deterministic — identical input and options yield identical output and checksum. CSV_MALFORMED (retryable after fixing structure; unchanged broken CSV will not succeed): unparseable rows or column mismatch — inspect delimiter, quotes, and row widths, then retry. Size or row limit violations are input validation errors (not retryable until you lower max_rows/max_bytes or split the file). Output over 100KB spills to file_ref unless you set outputToFile explicitly.
Context footprint
Inline input up to default 2MB; optional file_ref read up to 5MB; output may return normalized_csv or file_ref plus download_url. A successful call costs 2 execution credits.
When to use it
When you receive messy CSV and need a canonical form before further processing.
When the file is already clean or exceeds your max_bytes setting.

File limits
Constraints this skill applies to your input and generated files. The “Limited by” column shows the static source of each cap; none of these can be raised by upgrading your plan.
| Limit | Value | Limited by |

Input schema
| Field | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| csv | string | No | Bounded inline CSV source. Required unless file_ref is provided. |
| file_ref | string | No | Tenant-scoped uploaded CSV reference. Omit it to use the required inline csv; never send both. |
| delimiter | string | No | Input delimiter detector; omit it for auto. |
| output_delimiter | string | No | Output delimiter; omit it for comma. |
| has_header | boolean | No | Whether the first row is a header; omit it for true. |
| header_strategy | string | No | How header names are rewritten; omit it for normalize. |
| trim_whitespace | boolean | No | Whether fields are trimmed; omit it for true. |
| quote_policy | string | No | When fields are quoted; omit it for minimal. |
| empty_value_policy | string | No | How empty fields are rendered; omit it for keep_empty. |
| null_string | string | No | Replacement for empty fields when empty_value_policy is null_string; omit it for empty. |
| line_ending | string | No | Output line ending; omit it for lf. |
| max_rows | integer | No | Maximum data rows; omit it for 20000. |
| max_bytes | integer | No | Maximum input size in bytes; omit it for 2000000. |
| strict | boolean | No | Whether warnings fail the call; omit it for false. |
| outputToFile | boolean | No | Whether to store the result as a file; omit it for false, and large output still spills automatically. |
Output schema
| Field | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| normalized_csv | string | No | Cleaned CSV as one string; omitted when the result went to storage. |
| file_ref | string | No | Stored cleaned file reference; omitted when the result came back inline. |
| download_url | string | No | Short-lived fetch URL present only alongside file_ref. |
| size_bytes | integer | No | Stored file size in bytes, present only alongside file_ref. |
| checksum_sha256 | string | Yes | SHA-256 of the cleaned bytes as lowercase hex. |
| report | object | Yes | Closed canonicalization report covering detected delimiter, headers, row counts, and checksum. |
