Gzip Decompress
file.gzip_decompress
Overview
You send a gzip file_ref up to 25 MiB. We inflate exactly one member, bound the output with maxOutputBytes (default 50 MiB, maximum 100 MiB), and reject a second member. The uncompressed artifact restores the Squillify filename and MIME type (report.pdf.gz becomes report.pdf). Optional outputFilename and outputMediaType override that for external gzip. trailingData=REJECT is the default; ALLOW_EMPTY permits zero padding only. This is not tar extraction or content decoding.
An unbounded inflater turns a small gzip member into a zip bomb on the API JVM.
Reliability
CRC and ISIZE are checked. GZIP_INVALID — trigger: the bytes are not a single deflate gzip member; retryable: no; next: send a well-formed gzip. GZIP_TRUNCATED — trigger: the member ends before the trailer; retryable: no; next: re-upload the gzip. GZIP_CRC_MISMATCH — trigger: CRC32 does not match; retryable: no; next: replace the member. TRAILING_DATA — trigger: leftover bytes or a second member; retryable: no; next: split the stream. EXPAND_LIMIT — trigger: output would exceed maxOutputBytes; retryable: no; next: raise the ceiling or reject the bomb. ITEM_LIMIT_EXCEEDED — trigger: compressed input exceeds 25 MiB; retryable: no; next: split the payload.
Context footprint
Managed uncompressed fileRef plus sizes and SHA-256. A successful call costs 2 execution credits.
When to use it
When you have exactly one gzip member and need counted inflation with CRC verification.
When the bytes are a tar archive, concatenated members, or already uncompressed.
Scope
Non-goals
- Does not walk tar archives
- Does not decode concatenated gzip members
- Does not trust gzip FNAME headers

File limits
Constraints this skill applies to your input and generated files. The “Limited by” column shows the static source of each cap; none of these can be raised by upgrading your plan.
| Limit | Value | Limited by |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum size per input file | 25 MiB | Skill and platform maximum |
| Maximum total input size | 25 MiB | Skill maximum |
| Maximum number of input files | 1 | Skill maximum |
| Maximum generated artifact size | 100 MiB | Skill maximum |
| Maximum number of generated files | 1 | Skill maximum |

Input schema
| Field | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| file_ref | string | Yes | Tenant-scoped gzip member up to 25 MiB. Concatenated members are rejected. |
| maxOutputBytes | integer | No | Expansion ceiling in bytes, 1 through 104857600. Omit it for 52428800. |
| trailingData | string | No | REJECT fails on leftover bytes; ALLOW_EMPTY permits all-zero padding only. Omit it for REJECT. |
| outputFilename | string | No | Optional path-free download name for the uncompressed artifact when the gzip file_ref has no reliable name. |
| outputMediaType | string | No | Optional MIME type for the uncompressed artifact when the gzip file_ref has no reliable type. |
Output schema
| Field | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| fileRef | string | Yes | New tenant-scoped uncompressed payload produced from exactly one gzip member. |
| filename | string | Yes | Path-free download name restored from the gzip artifact, or outputFilename when supplied. |
| expiresAt | string | Yes | RFC 3339 expiry of the uncompressed file_ref. |
| mediaType | string | Yes | MIME type restored from the gzip artifact filename, or outputMediaType when supplied. |
| sizeBytes | integer | Yes | Uncompressed size in bytes, bounded by maxOutputBytes. |
| sha256 | string | Yes | SHA-256 hex digest of the uncompressed payload. |
| inputBytes | integer | Yes | Compressed input size in bytes. |
| maxOutputBytes | integer | Yes | Expansion ceiling that was applied. |
| trailingData | string | Yes | Applied trailing-data policy, either REJECT or ALLOW_EMPTY. |
