OpenAPI Validator
schema.validate_openapi
Overview
You send an OpenAPI 3.0.x or 3.1.x document as JSON or YAML, inline or as a file reference, and we tell you whether it holds together structurally. Every complaint the parser raises comes back as a message, split into errors and warnings, alongside the detected specification version, the API title, and how many operations the document declares. We read the document as written and never follow a $ref off to the network. To turn a good document into a list of operations, use schema.extract_openapi_operations. Accepts file input via file_ref — no need to extract file content first.
A structurally broken document breaks gateways, generators and docs quietly and far downstream. You find out here instead, in one call, before anyone builds on it.
Reliability
Deterministic: the same document always produces the same verdict and the same messages, and we never reach out to the network. Note that valid is true only when there is no message at all, so you can see valid false with errorCount zero if everything raised was a warning. We reject the call, and an unchanged retry will not help, when neither document nor file_ref is present, when maxErrors is not an integer, when the content is over 2097152 bytes, when a referenced file is missing, unreadable or over 5000000 bytes, or when the YAML trips our safety limits — an over-long line, more than 50 alias expansions, or nesting deeper than 64 levels.
Context footprint
Content is capped at 2097152 characters whether it arrives inline or through a file reference, and the response carries at most maxErrors short messages. Upload a file first if you would rather not escape a large document inline. A successful call costs 1 execution credit.
When to use it
Before you publish, deploy, or hand off an OpenAPI document, or right after you receive one from someone else.
When the document is already known good and you just want its operations, or when you need references to other documents followed.
Powered by Swagger Parser, the reference OpenAPI parser maintained by the Swagger/OpenAPI community.
Scope
Non-goals
- We never list the operations for you — that is schema.extract_openapi_operations
- We never generate client or server code from the document

File limits
Constraints this skill applies to your input and generated files. The “Limited by” column shows the static source of each cap; none of these can be raised by upgrading your plan.

| Maximum size per input file | 4.8 MiB | Skill maximum |
How we handle your data
What this means
This skill may receive sensitive content, but it does not target sensitive data and returns only a structured non-sensitive result.
Squillify guarantees

- This skill runs inside Squillify.
- Payloads are not sent to an external service by this skill.
- Squillify does not permanently store submitted payloads.
- Telemetry records metadata only, not submitted content.
- Submitted payloads are not used for training.
- Submitted payloads are not reviewed by humans.
- This skill does not target sensitive data.
- The response does not contain submitted content.
Your responsibility
Squillify does not determine whether submitted content is sensitive. Your application is responsible for deciding what data it is allowed to submit. Your application is responsible for securing the response.
Input schema
| Field | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| document | string | No | OpenAPI 3.0.x or 3.1.x document as JSON or YAML text, 1 to 2097152 characters. Required unless file_ref is provided. |
| file_ref | string | No | Tenant-owned OpenAPI file reference; omit it to read document. When both are sent this one wins. |
| maxErrors | integer | No | How many parser messages to keep across errors and warnings; omit it for 100. |
Output schema
| Field | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| valid | boolean | Yes | True only when the parser produced a document and raised no message at all. |
| version | string | No | Declared specification version such as 3.0.3; omit it when the document could not be parsed. |
| title | string | No | API title from the info block; omit it when none is declared or the document could not be parsed. |
| operationCount | integer | No | How many operations the document declares; omit it when there is no paths block. |
| errorCount | integer | Yes | How many entries the errors array holds after the cap. |
| errors | array | Yes | Parser defects, 0 through 10000 closed {message} objects in parser order. |
| warningCount | integer | Yes | How many entries the warnings array holds after the cap. |
| warnings | array | Yes | Parser warnings, 0 through 10000 closed {message} objects whose text contained warn. |
